The best of community support and broadcasting has been recognised at the 2020 Community Radio Awards. Like most events this year, the night was available online for community radio volunteers and staff to view in their own homes.
Continuing the tradition, the event was hosted by last year’s Male gold recipient, Sam Day from Future Radio, with awards presented by a multitude of judges and sponsors.
Martin Steers, awards chair, told RadioToday: “This year has not been what we expected, but community radio has really stepped up to the plate and served its communities more than ever.
“The work we’ve seen this year is phenomenal, and we’re delighted to be able to help recognise this. We’re already planning next year’s awards, and hope to gather again in person once more!”

VIBE 107.6 FM was shortlisted in the annual national Community Radio Awards. The station made the shortlist, which was whittled down from more than 460 entries from 90 stations from every corner of the UK.
Benjy Potter picked up a nomination in the Newcomer category & Miles Blumsom’s Breakfast Show was nominated in the Entertainment Show of the Year category. The awards ceremony took place online from 7 pm on December 12th.

The Vibe Breakfast Show runs from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every weekday to help ease people into the working day. Miles, Al, and Tamsin host the show on Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays.
The show is a mixture of the latest tunes, features, interviews, competitions, and travel news. There is a strong focus on local content which has included interviews with Watford’s Elected Mayor Peter Taylor, hosting an entire show from his office, local MP Dean Russell, and Watford celebrities Rak-Su. When it has been possible this year the team have been out doing challenges live on air, which saw Tamsin successfully dashing to become the first person to buy something in the new Aldi and Al being dispatched to The Grove to get an interview with or even a glimpse of Donald Trump when the G20 summit took place.
Benjy joined Vibe 107.6FM just one year ago and hosts Vibe Drive 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. which gets people home each weekday. The show plays all the latest music and has interviews and has previewed shows at the Watford Palace Theatre and The Pump House, including a zoom interview with our very own Pantomime Dame, Dame Terry. Benjy delivered a special show on dementia, highlighting Watford’s aim to be a dementia-friendly town which featured Hornets legend, Luther Blissett.
