Working with Market Asset Management (MAM), all vacant units will be renovated, there’ll be better signage and signposting that highlights the diverse and eclectic retail offer inside and refreshed branding and new planting will enhance the character and ambiance of the space.

The council has committed £250,000 to help with the makeover which also aims to attract new independent traders into the market community. Other uses for the revamped market space are currently being explored including the creation of a community café and seating area and pop-up shops where a range of different traders can temporarily sell their goods.

To showcase the current traders and what they have to offer, new social media accounts have been set up to help keep customers informed about new deals and special promotions.  To follow the pages, please visit and

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said “We are a market town, with roots back to the 12th century and I am determined to make sure we have a thriving market in the future. Working with traders and Market Asset Management, from January through to the summer we will be installing improved signage and planting, as well as bringing the empty units to a lettable standard. To further encourage new traders and enhance the experience for visitors, we will also be rebranding to highlight the eclectic and vibrant mix of stalls at the market.

“I look forward to working with traders to make sure our market is as successful as it can possibly be. Our small businesses are the lifeblood of Watford’s economy, making a vital contribution to the success of our town. To support them and Watford Market stallholders, we also launched our Shop Local campaign. It’s vital, now more than ever, that we all do what we can to support our local Watford businesses in what has been a difficult year for everyone.”

The overall aim of this is to build on the character the market already has and to help guide it in a new exciting direction. For more information,
