High living standards

A £180 million investment by intu to expand its retail and leisure offer in the town centre completed in Q4 2018 and Watford is now ranked in the top 20 of CACI’s national retail rankings.

The town boasts three theatres, is home to the BBC Concert Orchestra and the only producing theatre in Hertfordshire, hosts the acclaimed annual Imagine Watford street performance festival and is home to a premiership football club widely recognised as one of the most family friendly and community based clubs in the country.

Watford is proud of its 12 Green Flag parks and open spaces (more than in any other part of Hertfordshire), including Cassiobury Park which is regularly voted as one of the top 10 favourite parks in the country.

With quality starter and family homes favourably priced to buy or rent compared to London, Watford is a true live-work destination for businesses and employees.

For families the town offers excellent state and independent schools on the doorstep, including the Ofsted rated outstanding Watford Grammar School for Boys and Watford Grammar School for Girls. A strong vocational educational offer is provided by West Herts College which delivers both further and higher education level qualifications and works closely with the Watford business community.

With its strong cultural, retail, leisure, housing and education offer Watford provides the work-life balance that employees demand so it’s no surprise to learn that the Office for National Statistics reported Watford is the happiest place in Hertfordshire.

We know that the reason you usually come to our channels is for a dose of inspiration, a hint of escapism, and ideas on the very best ways to spend your free time across Watford. We also know that there is a huge amount of uncertainty right now though.

Making a trip out of the house to explore over the coming weeks is not recommended by the government and we want you to stay safe. However, here at Visit Watford we are still committed to sharing with you everything that’s great about our town.

You may see some changes to the content we’ll be posting; with more of a focus on supporting our local businesses, sharing a few things to look forward to, and providing a little distraction during times where you may be stuck indoors.

We’ll be championing Watford’s independent businesses, keeping you up to date with great stories from our community – and above all else – continuing to share incredible photos from across the area which we hope will put a smile on your face.

Got ideas of content you’d like to see from us? Maybe a local hero you think deserves a special mention? Get in touch at marketing@visitwatford.com.
