Running through the heart of Watford town centre is the High Street which is reputed to be one of the longest in the country, stretching a mile in length from Bushey Arches to the Town Hall.
Before the coming of the railways and the growth of the town, Watford was little more than this one long street and surrounding farmland.
Today it is home to our fabulous Shopping District, full of wonderful places to eat, drink, meet up, play and stay.
At the very centre is Hertfordshire’s top shopping destination, Atria, with over 140 shops, featuring some of the biggest brand names around. Alongside some superb restaurants and leisure attractions. Atria make it so very easy to spend a day or simply shop – with excellent mother and baby facilities, accessible parking spaces, tap and go parking, electric car parking, shopmobility service, banking, post office and a car wash.
All in quick and easy reach from London or the surrounding areas by train or car.
Our town centre is not just home to fabulous places to shop!
There is a whole range of eateries and places to drink. From a casual coffee to a glamorous cocktail ! We have a vibrant event space too – near our famous pond. Where throughout the year we feature everything from a summer beach, to performing arts events and of course our sparkletastic Christmas light up show.

Further down the High Street is the Watford Museum, home to some very special items that showcase Watford’s history and that includes some wonderful Watford FC memorabilia too.
Of course keeping the High Street and its businesses thriving takes a special team and that is the role of Watford BID – which means our Business Improvement District. This business led not for profit company is voted for by the businesses and supported by the public sector and represents 452 businesses and organisations in Watford town centre. It keeps our High Street businesses connected and our Town Centre vibrant, supporting, sustaining and showcasing this wonderful area all year round.
